What do i do?

This improvement aims to clarify the date selection process on tiket.com by adding a visual cue to reduce user confusion.

the Background

This is the first time in a long while that I've used the ticket search feature on tiket.com via the website. After such a long time, using the date search feature again, one thing I found was difficulty in selecting dates for a round-trip journey. It was difficult because the design for selecting dates made it appear as though the departure and return dates had to be selected separately. However, it turns out that in one action, the user selects both the departure and return dates without having to exit the calendar. But during the calendar selection process, it doesn’t indicate that both dates are being selected at the same time.

The Cause

The Cause

From the background, I identified the main cause of the confusion. The design creates a perception that the departure and return dates must be chosen separately because there is no clear indication that both dates can be selected within the same calendar interaction. This is further reinforced by the visual divider between the two date fields, which makes it feel like two distinct actions. As a result, users may not realize that they can select both dates in one continuous step, leading to potential confusion during the booking process.

the Thought

I don't intend to change the current design, as it works well overall. However, I believe adding a small gesture or visual cue could help resolve the confusion. My suggestion is to change the color of the dates between the departure and return dates when selecting the return date (similar to how the color changes when hovering over dates). This would indicate that after choosing the departure date, users need to select the return date next

Takeaways

The confusion in the date selection process arises from the design's visual cues, which suggest that departure and return dates must be chosen separately. The absence of a clear indicator that both dates can be selected in one action leads users to view the process as two distinct steps. By adding a subtle visual cue, such as highlighting the dates between the departure and return, users can be guided more intuitively through the process, reducing any potential misunderstanding without altering the overall design.
